The Japanese craft Kintsugi and the society group of Neurodivergent share the same philosophy: Embracing the imperfection and the beauty of the scars and natural irregularities, which is the beauty of age and impermanence. I realized how creative the Neurodivergent people are. It’s easy for them to get distracted by other things, but this also leads him to multitask. I believe these traits are unique and should be shown to the public, even though there might be people trying to hide them. Thus, my design philosophy focuses on the idea of revealing the cover, and people can see the precious objects that are hidden underneath. At the same time, I am drawn to the process of constructing tailored suits. There are so many gorgeous details made by human hands, but not too many people have realized this, such as the hand stitching, grading, and pattern making.
When I started to make my design come to real-life, I tried different hand-knitting techniques to see how it can be turned into. I also want to create the texture of glossy and distortion since Kintsugi used Urushi lacquer for gluing the broken pieces, which is natural lacquer derived from the sap of the lacquer tree. The properties of this material is glossy, waterproof.
For the construction details of my clothes, I always have the sense of opening versus closing, and letting people to detach some parts in order to see fabric embroidery underneath the cover, which echos the design philosophy of showing the valuable past and scars, or the things that people are trying to hide from the public.
